There are Various Types of Electrical Conduits. Electrical Conduit is used to carry electrical wiring for power or communication by pulling single strands or solid wire through the electrical conduit. Electrical Conduit is most commonly made from plastic, metal and fibre and can be rigid or flexible. Electrical Conduit is solid which houses and protects the electrical wiring or cables from being damaged as well as isolates the wires for safety reasons. Electrical Conduit can be used in exposed locations, run inside walls, underground and in wet areas as it can resist moisture, hence, the prevention of corrosion. With this in mind, the pipe is non-conductive and will require a grounding conductor.
Different types of Electrical Conduit are: –
Electrical Metal Tubing is made of steel to prevent rusting and is extremely rigid, however, can be bent and easily cut. EMT is very popular for commercial and industrial buildings but has been used in residential applications as it provides protection when used for exterior purposes.
Electrical Non-Metallic Conduit is corrugated and thin-walled whilst protecting against moisture and fire. It can be easily bent and installed due to its flexibility, however, the fittings are rigid.
Flexible Metallic Conduit is used in dry areas for commercial and industrial applications where it is difficult to install other conduit types, however, it does not keep its shape when bent.
Liquid-tight Flexible Metal Conduit has the same properties as above (Flexible Metallic Conduit), however, this conduit has a plastic waterproof coating and is recommended for use in wet or damp areas.
Aluminium Electrical Conduit is rigid and corrosion resistant and commonly used in commercial and industrial applications where large volumes of water is used.
Galvanised Rigid Conduit is made from galvanised steel, therefore, resistant to corrosion and provides the thickest wall dimension and weighs the heaviest out of all the conduits. This Electrical Conduit is used for commercial and industry applications.
PVC Conduit is on of the most common type of electrical conduits and is the lightest of the conduit materials and usually the lower cost material. This Electrical Conduit is resistant to corrosion and moisture and has the ability to expand and contract. Our PVC Electrical Conduit is four metres long and comes in two specifications – grey medium duty (MD) which is used for aboveground applications and orange heavy duty (HD) which is used for underground applications. Deciding on the appropriate Electrical Conduit to use depends on what it is required for, where it is going to be installed and how many wires being fed through the pipe will determine the sizing of the Electrical Conduit needed.
PVC Electrical Conduit is available in the following sizes: –
20mm – MD Grey and HD Orange
25mm – MD Grey and HD Orange
32mm – MD Grey and HD Orange
40mm – HD Orange
50mm – HD Orange
63mm – HD Orange
80mm – HD Orange
100mm – HD Orange
125mm – HD Orange
150mm – HD Orange
Fittings including sweep bends and couplings are also available for Electrical Conduit.
